My most important goal as a teacher is to actively engage students in the learning process. I utilize a variety of different teaching techniques that encourage students to fully comprehend new concepts instead of simply acquiring pieces of information. For example, I incorporate case study discussions with Wikipedia-style group writing assignments as well as an emphasis of neuroscience-related stories in the media. My lectures draw from the primary scientific literature and promote a critical analysis of hypothesis-driven discoveries. My teaching interests span a broad range with a central focus around behavioral neurobiology. Currently, I teach Psychobiology (PSYC 3458) and Animal Behavior (BIOL 3403) but I have previously taught neurobiology, animal communication and neuroendocrine pharmacology. As a BNS advisor, I am happy to help with curriculum issues as well as questions regarding graduate studies and research. I also help organize undergraduate neuroscience meetings and volunteer in programs that promote science for girls in the Boston area.
